Statement from California Legislative Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Caucus in Celebration of Pride Month

June 01, 2017

Sacramento, CA - In celebration of LGBT Pride Month, California LGBT Caucus Chair Evan Low released the following statement:

“Today, as we begin LGBT Pride Month, we celebrate the progress that we have made in our great state toward our goal of achieving full equality, civil rights, and social justice for all LGBT Californians. While we have made incredible advances in our fight for equality – from securing same-sex marriage, to increasing advocacy for and visibility of transgender rights, to strengthening our laws and protections in the areas of health care, education, and poverty alleviation, there is much more work that remains to be done.

My colleagues and I in the California Legislative LGBT Caucus are committed to doing everything in our power here in the Legislature to ensure that California remains a leader in advancing LGBT civil rights protections throughout our state and the nation. With attempts to roll back LGBT civil rights likely to come from the administration in Washington, as well as programs that LGBT people depend on, such as the Affordable Care Act, we know that California must not just hold the line, but continue to be a bold, innovative leader.

In the coming years, our state will continue to serve as a beacon of hope for the rest of the nation and the world. This LGBT Pride Month, let us celebrate the incredible cultural diversity of our California LGBT community by pressing forward, more unified and committed to the work that lies ahead, so that one day all Californians truly have freedom, justice, and equality.”
